What Is Your Greatest Asset In Life? It’s Not What You Think

When narrowing it down to what’s important, what is your greatest asset in life? It may be easy to identify, but it’s not what a lot of people value these days.

Your best asset is not real estate, gold, or even artwork. We can say it’s your mind (which is true), but what’s even more important? Your greatest asset today is time and how you use it each day.

Time is likely the most important asset because it’s one thing you can never get back. How you use it now and in the future can determine what kind of life you’ll have.

What Is Your Greatest Asset In Life? You’re Doing It Now!

Time wasted on passive activities

These days, people take their time for granted. In other words, they use it to be lazy or do things that don’t matter much in life.

For example, rather than learning a new skill or working on a side hustle, people may watch Netflix three to four hours a night. If you stuck to Netflix every night, think about how much time is being burned away.

We’re talking 18 or more hours a week, which could have gone to doing something productive. For people like me, that’s a valuable time to work on mastering a specialized skill.

William Penn, the founder of the Province Of Pennsylvania, once said a great quote about time in general: “Time is what we want most, but what we use worst.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

Time not valued as other things

If people had the choice between time and money, a lot of them would pick money. We all need to make money, but we can make as much as we want.

That’s the difference between time and money. You can’t make up time, but you can lose money and make more if you desire.

Time is a non-renewable resource. Once you use it, you can’t get it back. But with money, it doesn’t work that way. It’s why it’s important to be mindful of your time.

Time is what we want most, but what we use worst. Nothing could be further from the truth.

William Penn (Founder of the Province Of Pennsylvania)

Successful people value time the most

Some of the most successful individuals today make great use of their time. People like Jeff Bezos, Jack Dorsey, and Bill Gates have methods they each use to manage their daily routines.

All of them understand the importance of time because it’s something you can never get back. You have to make the most out of before kicking off your day.

What is your asset in life?

Your best asset in life is your time. Learning how to use your time wisely can determine the best outlook for your life ahead.

My thoughts

Before, I needed to understand how to manage my time well. I took things for granted each day, and once the time was up, I had to move on to something else.

Today, I have some regrets over how I could have used my time better. If I had thought the same way eight years ago as I do today, I would be in a much better situation in life.

However, the past is behind me and I need to move forward. I’ve learned my lessons, and I’m going to do the best I can to be in the position I want to be in someday.

Time is something I care about more these days. How I use it is more meaningful than it was several years ago.

Some questions to consider

  • What is an important asset in your life right now?
  • Do you think time is an asset to help you improve the quality of your life?
  • How can you use your time differently than you did in the past?
  • What will it take for you to get more time back in your days?

Final Words

A lot of people believe their greatest asset falls into the money category. But it actually falls more into the mindset, which is true.

When it comes to your greatest asset in life, it understands how to use your time wisely. Unfortunately, not a lot of people appreciate that meaning.

However you choose to use your time is up to you, But remember: When your time is gone, you cannot get any of it back. So choose it wisely.
