Hubstaff Review: How Effective Is The Time Tracker?

Submitting timesheets can be a hassle when managing a team. You may need to get a better idea of how your employees spend their time. Running a business involves many factors, and there are solutions for every one of them. Hubstaff can be one of those solutions. Throughout this Hubstaff review, I am going to explain what it is and whether its time tracker can benefit your business.

What is Hubstaff?

Hubstaff is a company that provides time management tools for people to operate their businesses better. The company started in 2012 with the idea of the need to work better.

Whether that’s tracking employee hours, paying contractors, or sending invoices, it’s how these ideas came about. Hubstaff works with more than 34,000 companies to improve their operations, including Groupon and Gartner. They continue to grow each year and remain innovative to meet their clients’ needs.

Hubstaff has excellent features on its website, including a blog section and a portal for people to look for jobs. But in this post, I will review their time tracking software. Their software is designed for businesses to spend less time tracking and more time growing.

Time Tracking Software from Hubstaff

How does Hubstaff work?

Hubstaff provides simple time tracking to keep business running on the clock. Their software is an “All in one place” spot to keep track of everything.

Everything that can range from time tracking, payroll, and invoicing are included in Hubstaff. It’s a great way to keep track of the most important things to monitor your business.

The following are some of Hubstaff’s main features:

Online timesheets

Submitting physical timesheets was a traditional approach in the workplace. But in today’s work environment, online timesheets make it easier to keep track of employee hours.

Also, you can combine tracking, billing, and payroll material as part of the employee’s timesheet. It’s easy to use via desktop or mobile app and integrates with payment and accounting solutions (such as PayPal and Quickbooks).

Hubstaff review: Hubstaff allows you to create electronic timesheets instead of physical ones.

Employee monitoring

This feature is real-time monitoring of employees’ work activities. It allows you to see their work in progress, with the option to view screenshots of employee activity.

This feature is compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebook. Timesheets and report scans are easily exported through the function as well.

GPS tracking

For teams on the go, the GPS tracker allows employees to clock in and out wherever they are. Through the GPS app, you can easily monitor their time and attendance. The app is available through Android and IOS devices.

Payroll

In addition to online timesheets, Hubstaff comes with payroll options to include in their software. Their payroll system is accurate and comes with a streamlined process for managing teams and payments.

Scheduling

Hubstaff comes with convenient online scheduling and attendance reporting. They have plenty of scheduling options for employees to choose from These options include:

  • Shift times
  • Availability and time-off requests
  • Natural clock in and out options

Can Hubstaff help keep time tracking efficient?

Your business can benefit from Hubstaff’s basic time tracking features. Considering how it works, it’s not as confusing and overly complex as it appears.

Keeping track of employees’ time is easy with its simple model. Knowing how to track time more efficiently can be helpful if it is for productivity purposes.

Hubstaff does a good job of taking care of all of the essential things you need to manage time in your business. When you have a large staff, it can be challenging to deal with payroll issues.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Software is very user-friendly and easy to use
  • Multiple integrations for project management tools and payment options, including Paypal, Asana, Quickbooks, Trello, Zoho Projects, and Wrike (Check out my Wrike review)
  • Compatible with all devices (PC/Mac/Linux/iPhone/Android) and operating systems (IOS/Android/Google Play)
  • A convenient one-stop, “all in one place” area for time tracking

Cons

  • No integrated communication tools to reach contractors or freelancers
  • Customer support response time reported being slow
  • Lack of currency options or different pay rates- it would be useful for those working remotely around the world.
  • The time tracker is a little bit “micro-managed”- some people have mixed reviews about micromanaging workers.

Is Hubstaff worth it?

Rating: 4.5/5

Five star ratings score: This picture is the rating score for product reviews.

Hubstaff is a well-designed time tracking tool to help businesses manage their employees’ work time. One of the best features is online timesheets, as it saves companies the hassle of making errors.

For the most part, it’s beneficial but does have some downsides. As mentioned earlier, customer support can be slow sometimes.

Additionally, looking at it as “micro-managing” may turn some people off. But overall, it’s very user-friendly to look into as an “all in one” stop for time tracking.

My thoughts

My last few jobs didn’t expose me to software such as Hubstaff. To make life easier for my employers, it would have been nice if they had that capability.

Without submitting paper timesheets, I could have saved myself a lot of time. My managers were annoyed and it caused some headaches. In the end, however, time tracking software such as Hubstaff may be shared in the workplace.

  1. Keeping track of time that one works on a project, is essential if you need to bill your customers, or if you need to track the time that you employees or contractors work for you. This becomes even more important if people are working remotely. So to have software that will help you to track time and have efficient time management, is very helpful.

Hubstaff seems like a reliable and efficient software package to use, and to have payroll as an option, will save many employers the need to have separate software for payroll. Being able to have different currencies would be a great bonus for global workers.

Thank you for introducing me to this time management tool.

    • Hi,

The ability to keep track of time helps any type of business. Whether it’s for billing clients or for paying employees/contractors, a time tracking tool can benefit any business.

Hubstaff works well for any business looking to improve efficiency; also, to help boost productivity throughout a company. Your points validate what Hubstaff has the capability to do for these purposes.

You and I agree on the global currency point. That would be a neat feature for Hubstaff to have, so maybe that will be something that may be added later on.

Thank you for sharing your insights- they’re greatly appreciated.
