What is Strikingly?

Strikingly is a website builder designed mostly for beginners, especially if they have little to no experience in coding or website design? For the last 10 years, they’ve helped users create mobile-first, responsive websites.

As a website builder service, they take a mobile-first approach as more users use mobile devices to view websites. So it helps to ensure that websites are viewable on all devices, including desktops, tablets, and mobile phones.

Strikingly’s mission is to give everyone an opportunity to build their own website. They believe in the power of individuality, and to pass on helpful information on the internet.  Every individual has the capability to do well, so that’s one of the primary points in how they run their business.

For the remainder of this review, I’ll lay out some of the top features and determine whether it’s the right choice for your business needs.

If you’re in a hurry… Here’s a brief video going over what Strikingly is all about. Along with that, there’s a list of pros and cons to review as well.

Welcome To Strikingly!

How does Strikingly work?

Strikingly is very basic to getting started. You can start out today with a free plan, which may be the best choice for you right now.

Once you sign up for an account, it will help you decide what type of website you prefer. Some questions to consider include the following:

  • Do you want a single-page website or a blog?
  • Do you want a website where it showcases your business? Do you want just a simple online presence?

There are a lot of features Strikingly has on their builder. I will go over some of the top features to look at.

Strikingly website creator: Strikingly's mission is to give users access to building a great website.

Theme designs

The web designs are very modern, which helps make a website stand out. Also, you can easily customize the designs as well.

Strikingly offers 10 primary templates to choose from. You can pick them from a wide array of categories, including business, startup, technology, personal website, or a portfolio website

Editable sections

These sections contain large blocks of content that split up a page. That way, it’s easier to write and edit content while inside the back office.

Also, every theme has its own set of sections where you can add page elements. It helps make a website stand out, and makes it easier to navigate.

Basic editor

The drag-and-drop editor is very simple to add any type of content. These can range from the following:

  • Text boxes
  • Images
  • Videos
  • Contact forms
  • Social feeds
  • Slide-shows

Online store builder

The website builder allows you to create a store by enabling their eCommerce section. It allows you to add product items, set shipping options, and even create coupon codes as well.

Their most basic plan is the “Simple Store”, which only allows you to sell one product. If you went with their Pro plan, you can sell up to 20 products.

So some of their plans are limited by the number of products you can sell. Another thing you can not do is categorize products, or sell digital items online.

With an online store, there are no transaction fees involved. Also, their most common payment options include PayPal and Stripe.

Website automation through a Linkedin URL

One cool feature Strikingly offers is you can create a website based on your Linkedin profile. You can convert information from that profile into a mobile-friendly website if your business has a profile page.

That can be helpful if your business has a Linkedin profile. Also, it helps build awareness of your brand if you’re taking information from a Linkedin page.

Integrations with Facebook

Strikingly is conveniently integrated with Facebook, which makes it easier to showcase your website on that platform. Some of the things you can do include:

  • Tracking conversion rates on Facebook ads
  • Embedding live chat by using Facebook Messenger on your website
  • Sharing content (whether through text, video, or images)

Landing page design

Strikingly is best known for creating neat landing pages. If a one-page website is what you need for your business, Strikingly has extra elements to make them stand out. If you want to showcase your business (or looking to sell a high-ticket product), a landing page might be the best way to go.

Can Strikingly create high-speed, responsive websites?

Simple websites can be built with Strikingly. While their blogging features are straightforward, they aren’t as powerful as a platform like WordPress.

One-page builders are ideal for those who want to showcase their business. Although there are some limits, it’s good for those who don’t want a complex website.

Regarding speed performance, page speed is not very fast. Some users have reported constant slowness with their websites, which can be very frustrating sometimes. So speed is one area that can present a problem for running websites.

Who is Strikingly best suited for?

Strikingly is great for small businesses, especially for those that want a simple presence online. It also works for people who want to build a small portfolio website. Artists would fall under that category, especially if they want to showcase their talent online.

It’s not best suited for large eCommerce stores. The reason is that Strikingly does not have the most advanced features to operate at that capacity. The same holds true if your online store can only sell a certain number of products.

Pricing

Strikingly has a few plans to choose from in building a website. As mentioned earlier, they have a free plan to start out with. However, it does come with limitations without choosing a paid plan. All plans come with a 14-day free trial.

If you want to take advantage of savings, they do offer annual options as well. Not only do they provide 1-year plans, but you can choose between 2-5 year plans as well. If you want to make a long-term commitment, that’s certainly possible.

Is Strikingly worth it?

Strikingly has a lot of nice templates to make a functional website. Especially if you want something simple (such as a landing page), Strikingly falls under that category of simplicity.

Unfortunately, it’s not the best for building an eCommerce store. With the number of products you can sell, it can be hard to sell a variety of products for an online store.

Another thing that’s an issue is page speed. With a slow performance, that can be a problem trying to get traffic to your website.

I always think if it’s a slow website, then it means a slow business as well. Page speed is crucial to the success of any website, so that should always be considered in a website builder.

My thoughts

When I used the website builder, I found it easy to use. There are a lot of neat features to make the most out of, which can help make a website functional.

I will say I’m not a fan of one-page websites. When you’re making a simple landing page, it’s hard to build that online presence.

If you wanted to use search engine optimization (SEO), it can be tricky getting organic traffic to your website. So your only other option would be to use paid ads (i.e. Google Ads), which I don’t recommend if you have little to no revenue.

Strikingly website creator: Strikingly has helpful guides to creating a website.

Also, the support is fine. I like the tutorial and FAQ guides they provide to their customers. However, I don’t like that they have live chat available.

I believe live chat is an important feature to have for customer support. So not having that option when you need to reach out to someone is a downfall.

But overall, I don’t find it to be a standout website builder. There’s no “WOW” factor that I found in there, so I would give this one a pass.

Final Words

Strikingly is another website builder that can help grow your business. Although it doesn’t provide the most advanced features, it provides simple resources to get a functional website up and running.

It doesn’t cost a whole lot to get started. It’s best to start with a free plan if you don’t mind having only the basics.

But if you want to give one of their plans a try, you have a 14-day free trial. You never know if it might be useful to make the most out of their features. If you’re ready, give it a try today.

  1. There are so many website builders available these days, that it has become easier for anybody to build their own website, without the need to employ a web designer. Strikingly is a website creator that can help beginners.

Although it has a free plan and is simple to learn how to use, I don’t like the slow page speed. Google ranks pages that load slowly much lower, so I would rather look for a website builder that has fast load speed.

SEO is another very important ranking factor. So if the SEO with Strikingly is not the best, I would rather look elsewhere for a website builder.

    • Hi,

It’s much easier to build a website now these days. But with so many options, it’s not easy picking which one fits your needs the best.

For some people, Strikingly may be a great choice in that matter. Although it’s not a top-notch website builder, those who go with Strikingly will be satisifed with what they have to offer.

Although I agree with you on page speed, as it’s important for websites to perform fast. No one wants to navigate through a slow website.

SEO is important as well, but not for everyone. Though if you decide to use SEO to find visitors for your website, it’s well worth the efforts.

But Strikingly may not be the best choice for it, which I agree with you as well.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts- I greatly appreciate what you have to say.

  2. This looks like a great service to people just starting out on building websites. Sometimes some website builders get way to technical for people.

I like that it has integrations for social media because nowadays that is important. The landing page builder might be of more interest to people though.

But a great insight on this program.

    • Hi Kevin,

Strikingly is a decent choice for those beginning out in website design. Especially if you don’t have any coding or website building experience, it can help with the guides and tutorials they provide.

You make a great point with websites getting technical, which can be too much for some people. Also, having those social media integrations can come in handy as well.

I can see why landing pages get more attention these days. Some people think they’re easier to build than full-scale websites.

I disagree with that notion, as landing pages have a lot more complexity. Particularly when it comes to one page builders, it can be a little tricky at times.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Strikingly- they’re much appreciated.
