Wealthy Affiliate Review 2023: Is WA A Good Program?

You may have heard of a long-time “make-money-online” platform called Wealthy Affiliate. When I first heard of it, the name sounded sketchy and a little questionable about its legitimacy. So is Wealthy Affiliate a good program?

The quick answer is yes, it’s a great program because the core training has helped beginners start successful, long-term online businesses.

The training worked before, it still works today, and it’ll continue to work for a long time.

Contrary to some negative reviews you may have come across, WA is a lot better than people may think otherwise.

In this one-of-a-kind review, I’ll dive into what the WA program is all about.

I’ll briefly review the background, the training they provide, and the top features to leverage the most on their platform.

Also, I’ll lay out the different tier membership levels (with a new one added in 2023).

I’ll give out my overall recommendation on whether to move forward with it or not.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program?

Contents hide

Wealthy Affiliate is a great program because its core training has helped many beginners kick-start their own online businesses.

The fact that the training still works today shows that anyone is capable of succeeding in the online world.

Wealthy Affiliate is a top choice for beginners looking for the basics. Let’s dive into what it’s all about.

But first: Why should you trust me?

If you don’t know already, my name is Eric Seil. I’ve been a member of the WA platform since 2019.

You may think I’m biased and believe I’m making a big promo in this review.

But that’s not the point at all. I take an honest approach here.

Read on further.

I have been in the online space for nearly a decade.

Prior to discovering WA, I tried many programs and fell for “get rich quick” schemes.

Profile picture: Here's a picture of me.

Without going into much detail, I had little success making money through these programs.

Not only have I wasted a bunch of money, but a lot of time and energy that may have been devoted to a better alternative.

From my experience, there’s a lot of bad information out on the internet.

There are programs claiming you can have “overnight success”, get rewarded with little to no effort, or that it’ll be easy to get rich quickly.

When in fact, none of that is true- (that’s bull-s–t)!

There is no such thing that exists- Anything you do in life requires work and effort to see results.

Our goal from the start has been to help other people learn how to harness the power of the internet and global marketplace, just as we did.

On the mission of Wealthy Affiliate- which is to teach others how Kyle and Carson succeeded in their own online businesses.
-Kyle Loudoun (co-founder of Wealthy Affiliate)

If for some reason you sign up for a program where you see short-term success, you’ll likely be disappointed in the long run.

I put that out to say that I know what goes on in the internet marketing space.

There are a lot of programs that don’t live up to people’s expectations, which leads to disappointment.

As you’ll read in this review, WA is none of what I experienced over the years.

It’s one of the few places where you can start an online business the right way.

So I’ll be clear: WA has its flaws and it’ll always need improvements.

But, I firmly believe it’s the best place to start an online business, and then scale it for long-term growth.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? This graph lays out the main components of Wealthy Affiliate.

What is the Wealthy Affiliate program?

WA is an online educational platform that teaches people how to build an online business from scratch.

It primarily focuses on building niche-specific websites via affiliate marketing.

In recent years, the platform has expanded on other topics, such as e-commerce, website flipping, and creating your own digital product.

If you’re in a hurry…

Here is a video of how affiliate marketing works broken down into a simple example.

The individual does a great demonstration by using Amazon. Also, here is a list of pros and cons to consider for Wealthy Affiliate.

What Is Affiliate Marketing in 2023? How Affiliate Marketing Works

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Core training is simple to follow and take action
  • SiteSupport is superior (i.e. issues are resolved quickly)
  • State-of-the-art web hosting
  • Expert classes (with a paid membership)
  • Private messaging and support from the co-founders

Cons

  • The keyword research tool, Jaaxy, is not always accurate
  • Being greeted by other members can feel overwhelming (i.e. feels like a cult)
  • The ambassadorship program (member ranking) is silly- takes focus away from the training
  • User interface similar to Facebook- but WAY much better
  • Some bad apples here and there (but get weeded out)

Who are the dudes behind all of it?

WA was launched back in 2005 (nearly 18 years ago) by two computer-science majors, Kyle Loudoun and Carson Lim.

Both met each other while in school when each of them were running their own affiliate marketing businesses.

Kyle and Carson did very well in their businesses respectively.

At one point, both of them came together to start an online service helping others with keyword research.

Here’s a fun fact: WA initially started out as a keyword list website, where members would get a set number of keywords every week.

The purpose was to find keywords that would help get their content ranked in the search engines.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? This background is what WA looked like back in 2005.

In the early-mid 2000s, the big search engine was Yahoo.

Just like platforms such as AOL and MySpace, Yahoo was the most used search engine at the time.

It’s easy to laugh about those platforms (Yahoo sounds like a thing of the past), but Yahoo, back then, was what Google is today.

via GIPHY

If you have a blog or a niche website, you can leverage those keywords to write content in your niche.

It worked very well back at the time.

Over the years, WA has turned into a much bigger platform since its early days of providing keyword lists.

Today, they provide more training and resources for their members.

It’s remarkable how much has changed over the years, and the platform continues to make improvements.

Compared to five years ago, the platform is much better and continues to give more to the community.

How does Wealthy Affiliate work?

Once again, WA is an educational platform that teaches you how to build a niche website step-by-step.

When you first sign up, you have the option to give it a free test drive

It helps to determine whether it’s the right fit for you and your business needs.

Once you sign up, the best way to get started is through the core training courses they offer.

These training courses teach people how to build businesses for the long term.

It may take time and lots of effort, but the training is effective for achieving long-term success.

There are two primary courses on getting started, which include:

Online Entrepreneur Certification (OEC): 5 Courses- 50 Lessons

Instructed by Kyle himself, the training lessons teach you how to create a niche website in any niche.

Some examples of specific niches may include:

  • Pilates training for women over the age of 50
  • Golfing for senior citizens
  • Cardio and resistance training for young male adults
  • Baseball gloves for 10-year old boys

The first five lessons (course 1) are free to go through as part of the free starter plan.

Courses 2-5 (45 lessons) will require a paid membership to move forward (premium or higher).

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? This shot is what the OEC course is from WA.

Some of the key materials covered in OEC include the following:

  • Picking a niche you enjoy and have a passion for
  • Choosing a domain/Setting up your website
  • Conducting keyword research (i.e. Alphabet Soup)
  • Writing content naturally (even if you don’t consider yourself a writer)
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO 101) basics (i.e. White-Hat SEO tips)
  • Signing up for affiliate programs in your niche
  • Social media engagement (be helpful and a trusted source in your niche)
  • Continue to grow your online business through regular content creation & outsourcing

Affiliate Bootcamp: 7 Courses- 70 Lessons

Taught by Kyle himself, this training teaches you how to build a website in the make money online (MMO) niche.

It’s also the primary training to actively promote WA.

It’s an excellent opportunity to take part in their affiliate program.

WA offer generous commissions to their affiliates- up to 50%!

If you’re interested in the MMO niche and want to promote WA,

Affiliate Bootcamp is the place to start the journey to becoming a super affiliate.

Similar to the OEC course, the first five lessons (course 1) are free with the free starter plan.

Courses 2-5 (65 lessons) require a paid membership to continue (premium or higher).

If you want to take part in the WA affiliate program, then this training is highly recommended.

What is the biggest incentive for taking part in the affiliate program?

Going through Affiliate Bootcamp, (and successfully completing it), that’s the first step to success in your online business.

If you earn at least 300 commissions in one year (i.e. new members upgrading to a paid WA membership), you will get an invitation from Kyle and Carson to attend the WA annual conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The best part is it’s an all-paid expense trip.

Yes! You read that right!

That includes airfare, travel, hotel, food, entertainment, etc.

In return, you get to spend time with Kyle, Carson, and some of the top affiliate marketers around the world.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? You can go to the WA annual conference in Las Vegas if you make 300 sales in a year.

Taking part in the annual conference is a great opportunity to network with successful entrepreneurs.

At the same time, you can share and implement ideas you have to make WA an even better platform for everyone to utilize.

That’s one of the main purposes of having these conferences:

That WA continues to improve and get better each year- so that every member has the opportunity to build and grow a successful, long-term online business.

If you want to take part in the WA affiliate program and attend their annual conference, then this training is the place to start.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? This is lesson 1 of the WA Affiliate Bootcamp training.

Some of the key materials covered in Affiliate Bootcamp include:

  • Narrowing down the MMO niche further
  • Conducting keyword research
  • Social media engagement (building brand awareness by being social)
  • Writing content naturally
  • Understanding your audience (acquiring referrals to join WA)
  • SEO 101 (Google, Bing, & Yahoo)
  • Pay-Per-Click Ads (PPC) 101
  • Scaling your PPC campaigns- For more conversions & long-term success

Is Wealthy Affiliate outdated?

Contrary to what you’ve reviewed, Wealthy Affiliate is not outdated.

The platform continuously makes updates and improvements to make the training simple, while building a strong community of over 2 million members.

By setting aside time to take action, the training still works so that anyone can build a successful, long-term business.

Put it simply: To claim that it’s outdated is completely false and very misleading.

Does either of the training courses work?

I often see this question asked by those starting out and going through the training.

From someone who’s taken the OEC training myself (twice now)- absolutely yes.

While going through the training, I happen to earn my first commission within my first two months of joining.

It doesn’t happen for a lot of people, but some people may achieve that sooner.

Here’s a snapshot of the first commission I received from WA.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? This article was one I wrote about making my first commission.
Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? This screenshot happens to be my first commission at WA.

Also, here’s an email I received from an affiliate program I’ve been part of for a while.

It’s not too bad for a commission (About a year and a half ago).

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? Here's a snapshot of a commission I earned back in mid-2021.

Earning these commissions was all possible due to what I learned and applied in the WA training.

So yes, the training works if you follow the lessons and take action.

You may not get results right away, but you’ll get there.

When it comes to online business, it’s a long-term game you’re going to play.

So it’s best to be patient and persistent at it.

Top Features

Built-in keyword research tool: AKA Jaaxy

Understanding keyword research is key to getting content ranked in search engines.

With a WA paid membership, you get access to the Jaaxy keyword research tool.

It’s a great tool for finding the best keywords for writing content.

There’s a lot of training on how to use Jaaxy in each of the WA core training lessons offered.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? Here's a list of keywords via Jaaxy.

Affiliate program search tool

This tool is a great way to find affiliate programs in your niche.

I would say it’s a very underutilized feature that members don’t take advantage of.

Why is that? It’s easier to look up affiliate programs through Google search.

Although you won’t find every single affiliate program through the tool, there are still a lot of good ones to sign up for in your niche.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? WA has an affiliate program search bar, where you can find a lot of affiliate programs to promote.

However, it’s good to still use it to your advantage.

What I like is how it gives you details about commission percentages, and where they came from.

For example, is it an independent program, or is it part of an affiliate network?

Some of the most common networks include Clickbank, Awin, Sharesale, and Commission Junction.

Niche finder (New For 2023!)

The niche finder is awesome, which was just rolled out at the beginning of 2023.

If you’re having trouble finding a niche, it can be an excellent starting point in your online business.

How it works is you type in any term or phrase, and then it’ll give you personalized suggestions.

Here’s an example of some terms I looked up for bowling since I used to bowl when I was in high school.

So if you’re a complete beginner and you don’t where to start, be sure to use the niche finder.

It’s mentioned in the first few lessons of the OEC training.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? The niche finder is a new feature to help narrow down your niche further.

What are the benefits of being a Wealthy Affiliate member?

There are a lot of benefits to being a member of this platform.

WA provides a lot to help you get started in the right direction.

There are a lot of neat features, but some of the benefits include:

Straightforward training (With NO UPSELLS)

The training lessons in OEC and boot camp are simple to follow.

The training materials allow you to go at your own pace.

So there’s no absolutely rush to get it done.

Also, there are clearly no upsells at all.

The only thing you do have to pay for is a domain name, which is mentioned upfront when you start the training.

Otherwise, that’s it.

It’s not one of those courses or programs where all of a sudden, you may have to pay for additional things.

It’s that feeling of having to go run and grab your credit card to keep moving along.

Don’t you hate that? WA does not feel like that at all.

Web hosting (State-of-the-art- top notch)

As a long-time member myself, I have to say the hosting WA provides is excellent.

Hosting is essential to maintaining your website’s health and performance.

There are other online platforms that do not provide hosting to their members.

In that case, you have no choice but to seek a third-party solution.

There are other hosting providers out there.

But I’ll tell you the following:

You’re likely going to pay more for hosting, and you may not use all of their features.

With WA web hosting, you’ll be paying far less and getting much more value than through another hosting service.

When you upgrade to a paid membership at WA, it’ll cost far less than you can imagine.

Continued learning

WA has additional training available, along with classes on other topics.

They come in the format of tutorials (read-through and/or videos), along with expert classes.

Depending on your membership, you will get at least one new expert class every week (see membership tier levels below).

That means more knowledge you can take away to help grow your online business, which means more earnings potential.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? WA has expert classes available when you become a premium (or higher) member.

There is no reason to ever stop learning. The skills you learn today could pay off forever in the future.”

-Jay Neill (Wealthy Affiliate Member & Weekly Live Training Instructor)

Community support

What makes WA unique is the amount of support you receive from the community.

It’s a large community of people from all levels, whether that’s brand new members, novices, and long-time members (15 years or longer).

Within the community, you can utilize the live chat feature.

That is where you can ask questions at any time (24/7 help).

The chances of you getting a response from someone goes up when it’s available 24/7.

I have to say that I’ve interacted with some of the nicest people here in WA.

They’re very helpful and supportive.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? WA has 24/7 live chat available to their members.

It looks like Facebook- BUT WAY MUCH BETTER

The only downside about it is it feels like an average social media network.

Based on the layout (user interface), it looks very similar to a platform like Facebook- minus the censorship and negativity.

But WA is WAY much better than Facebook.

The platform is a great place to network with others while sharing your success (and reading other peoples’ success stories) at the same time.

Having a community of like-minded people is the key to long-term success in online business.

The community at WA falls under that key criteria.

Technical support

Every now and then, you may come across technical problems with your website.

They may include your website going down, login issues, speed issues, etc.

Rest assured: WA has a dedicated team of individuals who are ready to tackle any tech issues you may have with your website.

They’re referred to as SiteSupport.

Whenever you have an issue, you can submit a ticket at any time.

Yes, SiteSupport is on the clock 24/7.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? WA has top-notch technical support for any issues with your website.

With that, you will get a response very quickly.

In my experience, they usually respond back in 20 minutes or less (half-hour at best).

I have nothing but great things to say about SiteSupport:

They truly are phenomenal when it comes to tech issues.

On this part, I give them a five-star rating- they’re stellar and give out prompt responses.

Private messaging and individual (one-on-one) support

With a paid membership, you have access to send private messages (PMS) to anyone on the WA platform.

You can even send me a PM as well.

More specifically, you can reach out to Kyle and Carson at any time.

You will get a response from them sooner than later.

Trust me- they read their emails,  and they respond to every PM that’s sent to them.

Think about it: How many platforms out there allow you to reach out directly to the founders?

Or to put in more perspective, being able to get direct support from the CEOS of a company?

I’ll say there are not many of them. So I think that’s pretty cool.

Kyle and Carson are great individuals who want to help you succeed in online business.

They’re very accessible on the WA platform, and always go out of their way to help whenever possible.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? This graph shows the benefits of being a WA member.

What are the costs of not signing up or upgrading your membership?

One thing I will say is there’s nothing wrong with not upgrading at all.

You can stick to having a free starter plan.

But, the chances of you succeeding and building a profitable online business are not high.

I believe it’s best to upgrade to one of the tier levels.

But if you’re having second thoughts about giving WA a pass, here are some things to consider:

Go down the “free” way (Free things come with limits)

You can stick with just the free starter account at WA, or you can figure it out on your own.

Sure, finding some good articles to read can help you get good insights into what you’re doing.

Maybe watching random videos on YouTube all day might be helpful, but you can only go so far.

It’s best not to go down a rabbit hole: Don’t get distracted or completely lost.

Opt to go for another platform (or a course)

There are many courses out there that can teach you how to make money online. Some of them are legit, but a lot of them are scams as well. Let alone, they can cost you a lot more to get up and running.

Paying more for possibly little return on investment

If you choose to buy a pricey course (i.e. $5000, plus additional expenses), you’re taking on a big risk.

Paying more than $5000 upfront might mean losing out on earning $5000.

That’s if you were to go with a less-costly option and go at a slower pace.

Not only that, a lot of these courses have you jump right into paid advertising and other methods.

If you’re a beginner, I don’t recommend going into this when starting out.

I say that because not only do you risk wasting money, but you may not have a thorough understanding of how it all works.

Before you dive into any paid advertising, you need to learn how it works before you spend any money.

What I’ve learned over the years

The one thing I learned about building an online business is it takes time and effort.

Opting to go the fast route may lead to short-term success, but your business will fail and become obsolete in the long run.

Considering these options, it can be costly not only to you but a potential loss to see your business grow in the long term.

A platform such as WA offers more to its members and is much more cost-efficient than similar platforms.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a scam or legit?

WA is not a scam at all: It’s a legitimate platform that teaches anyone how to start and grow a niche website from scratch.

Unlike other platforms, it’s not this shady program that teaches you bad practices (i.e. black-hat SEO).

Simply put, they continue to teach materials that work in online business.

They continue to teach that to this day, and it’s worked out very well for members who take part in the training.

Also, WA has an excellent reputation in the online world, especially with Trustpilot. They have a 4.8-star rating.

Overall, they have positive reviews.

So any complaints and negative reviews may not always be accurate.

In some places, they’re likely misleading or don’t truly understand the effectiveness of the WA platform.

Membership tier levels (2023 update)

WA comes with four different tier levels, so there’s an option for every single individual. Let’s break down each of them further:

Free Starter (Best for getting a test drive)

This plan is best to get a feel and give it a test drive.

For newcomers, it’s a good way to see if the platform is the right fit for them or not.

With a free account, there is limited access to some of the features offered.

For example, Jaaxy, private messaging, site feedback, and site comments are a few of those features not only for a free starter account.

The first course of the core training is only available for starter members.

Only the first five lessons can be viewed; but otherwise, courses 2-5 require an upgrade to premium or higher.

A relevant article from notimekillers.com

Read next on “Do I Have To Pay To Use Wealthy Affiliate? New Starter Plan, to learn about the updated free starter account for 2023.

Premium (Best for learning the basics)

This plan is the one most members will upgrade if they want to move forward with the core training lessons.

With a premium membership, you get private messaging and one-on-one support from Kyle, Carson, and myself.

Also, you can have access to Jaaxy Pro ($49 value), along with up to three websites on the site builder.

So if you wanted to have three websites to host and maintain, a premium membership would be a viable choice.

Weekly Expert Classes (500 + classes available to watch)

One other benefit of going premium is having one new expert class every week (52+ classes a year- plus bonus classes if any).

They’re normally held live on Fridays (8 PM EST/5 PM PST) by Jay Neill, a long-time member of the platform.

Jay is an excellent instructor when it comes to topics such as affiliate marketing, SEO 101, local SEO marketing, and much more.

These classes are full of golden nuggets to take away, with the intention to help continue growing your online business.

Additional classes may be held throughout the year as well, which usually are taught by Jay or Kyle himself.

Premium Plus (Best Value)

Premium Plus is the next level after a premium membership.

With Premium Plus, you get much more to help grow your online business.

These include Jaaxy Enterprise ($99 value), along with up to 10 websites on SiteBuilder.

If you do local SEO marketing and build websites for clients, having up to 10 websites through WA may be a great choice.

Daily Expert Classes (400 + classes available to watch now)

Along with one live class taught by Jay each week, you’ll have additional expert classes to watch throughout the week. These classes are taught by some of the most successful online marketers on a variety of topics.

Topics can range from YouTube, niche analysis, email marketing, funnels, copywriting, outsourcing, and building a brand.

If not every day, you’ll get up to six new expert classes a week.

From what I’ve watched, instructors like Eric Cantu and Vitaliy Gershfeld are some of my favorites.

Vitaliy has done several classes on pay-per-click (PPC), specifically Google and Microsoft.

So if PPC is something you want to leverage and scale, I highly recommend watching his classes.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? This image is a premium plus class that Roope (RoopeKiuttu) did on YouTube- specifically using TubeBuddy for research.
Roope (RoopeKiuttu) doing a class on TubeBuddy- a tool to help grow a YouTube Channel

Premium Plus- with a dedicated server (Best for the power user/serial entrepreneur)

Just rolled out at the tail-end of 2022, this plan is the highest tier level that WA offers.

With a dedicated server, you have everything that comes with a Premium Plus membership.

That includes up to 50 websites on site builder and customized site migration.

If you’re someone who manages multiple websites (whether for your businesses or for clients), this plan might be a good option to choose from.

Which membership is the best pick for your time and money?

Of all the tier levels, they’re all great options.

But if I had to pick one, I recommend a Premium Plus membership.

I don’t say that because I’m a current Premium Plus member, but you’re going to get so much more value out of leveraging the WA platform.

I’m someone who likes to keep learning concepts and sharpen my skill set.

So I like taking advantage of watching the expert classes each week.

To help understand why I recommend going Premium Plus, let’s think about two examples to making a decision.

Traditional university vs. Online learning (i.e. Internet marketing)

The way education continues to evolve, it’s becoming more clear that traditional education is becoming more antiquated than ever (i.e. outdated).

Here’s something to consider:

  • You sit in a college classroom taught by a “business 101” professor who teaches theory and concepts, but has little experience doing it in the real world. Not to mention the professor has been in the profession for 20+ years. It makes you think they don’t know how the real world operates.

  • Watch a class online on a relevant topic (i.e. YouTube SEO) from someone who’s had success and they’re DOING what they’re teaching. Keep in mind that the instructor has built a sustainable online business that gives them financial independence.

Compare and contrast these two examples: There’s a huge difference, and one is better than the other.

That’s the problem I see today in academics, and why I think traditional education (in-classroom instruction) continues to decline.

With a platform such as WA, you can leverage expert classes taught by individuals who understand what they’re teaching.

The key point to takeaway is they’re practicing it in their online businesses.

I see that as something indispensable when it comes to learning.

My point is: Learn from people who DO what they teach.

That’s what I value the most about education today.

What could you cut out to invest in Premium Plus?

As I will lay out shortly, a Premium Plus membership sounds like a lot.

But let’s think of it this way- what discretionary expenses could you cut out to go Premium Plus?

The first one that comes to mind is your cable bill.

I know many people have a love for TV shows and movies, but they’re not going to make you better off tomorrow or next year.

Cutting out cable is an easy one. Maybe not for you, but it’s not necessary at all.

If you think about it, a monthly plan for Premium Plus costs LESS than your average cable bill (TV + internet bundle package).

If you can cut out cable (and maybe sell that plasma TV of yours), you have the option to go Premium Plus (monthly or yearly).

So those expenses you don’t need are something to take another look at.

Pricing

As mentioned earlier, WA offers a free plan along with three other levels that are paid.

Let’s lay out the prices of the three-tier levels of membership:

Premium Plus (w/dedicated server)- $399/month (OR $332.50/month- billed at $3990 annually)

Everything included in Premium Plus with a dedicated server, along with:

  • Daily expert classes
  • 50 websites
  • Web hosting
  • Customized site migration

Premium Plus- $99/month (OR $58.08/month- billed at $697 annually)* BEST VALUE

This plan has the most features, including:

  • Daily expert classes
  • 10 websites
  • Web hosting
  • Jaaxy Enterprise ($99/month value)
  • Unlimited help & support (i.e. Community)
  • 24/7 website support (i.e. SiteSupport)

Is Wealthy Affiliate a good program? This is a banner of the support coaches you get from reading the review.

My recommendation: YES

WA is one of the best platforms to learn internet marketing.

The platform has substantially improved over the years, and it continues to get better by providing more to its members.

As I mentioned earlier, WA is not perfect.

There are some things I’m not the biggest fan of.

For example, the fact that it looks like an ordinary social media network.

There’s nothing wrong with WA being social or looking like a network such as Facebook.

But the ambassadorship initiative is not that necessary, as it can take a person’s focus away from their business activities.

My best tip of advice on this subject is as follows:

Be active on the platform and engage with other members.

However, be mindful about how you spend your time.

When you’re just starting out, it’s good to minimize your time whenever possible.

Overall, WA is my top recommendation to get started in online business.

There’s no other place I highly recommend than this spectacular platform.

Final Words

Going strong for nearly 18 years, Wealthy Affiliate remains an awesome platform to start an online business.

Sure, it may have some flaws and complaints from naysayers.

But here’s what really matters the most:

It continues to get better and makes improvements all the time.

Whether that’s through the training, user experience, or community support, WA gets better so that members can leverage it to their advantage.

It’s much better today than it was five years ago, and the same applies to what it will be five years from now.

As technology advances and more opportunities to create wealth arise, WA will continue to be the vehicle to help individuals achieve financial independence.

So, are you ready to make the move?

Do you believe WA offers what you need to jumpstart your first online business (or the next one)?

In that case, I encourage you to get started today, so that you can move your business in the right direction.

You’ll thank yourself later on for making one of the best decisions made for your business.

Your Turn: Is Wealthy Affiliate the real deal?

I would like to get your thoughts on this topic.

Do you think WA is a legitimate platform to make money online?

Do you like the resources that WA has to offer its members?

Which of the features would benefit you the most?

If you’re a current member, do you find the training valuable to grow your online business?

Is there anything that can be improved within the platform?

Is there something you don’t like in particular?

Do you think WA is the best place for beginners to start their own online business?

Feel free to share your thoughts by leaving a comment below.

I look forward to reading your responses, and I’ll gladly respond promptly.

  1. I agree with you, Eric. The name does sound sketchy, and I have spent a considerable amount of time in the past wishing the name didn’t sound so sketchy.

It’s really the only bad thing about the program though once you dig in and are able to see all the tools and training that are available. Having access to Jaaxy really puts WA over the top.

It was hard for me to imagine having all of these tools right at my fingertips, but they have been invaluable.

You mentioned how quickly you got your first commission. Has that picked up steam over time or has more been sent to level out?

    Keep up the good work.

    • Hi Joseph,

The name sounds a little bit weird. But now that I’ve spent more time on the platform, I get the idea behind the name, Wealthy Affiliate.

Yes, there are many platforms that don’t offer built-in keyword research tools or web hosting. Wealthy Affiliate goes above and beyond to provide those resources at no extra cost.

Regarding your question: I have made commissions over time. It was pretty steady early on, but over the last year, it has remained stagnant.

So I’m at a point where I’m trying to revamp some things. Hopefully, I will have more referrals that will leverage Wealthy Affiliate.

But more importantly, whoever I refer through this website will find that Wealthy Affiliates is a great platform.

Also, they’re getting value out of it and they’re taking action on the training. I believe that’s what matters most

As much as we like to think commissions are important, what I prioritize is making sure that my referrals are getting the best use out of the platform.

If they’re getting help and results, then I have done my job effectively.

I hope that answered your question.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts- I greatly appreciate them.

  2. Great article!  I may have different thinking, but I didn’t find the name Wealthy Affiliate sketchy at all!

You have really covered many great points. I am already a member, but there were some good encouraging words for someone who has already invested in this great program.

I like the support from everyone, including Kyle. I did not choose the Bootcamp option. I chose a niche and I’m trying to make that work.

The training has been great, but it’s been my time management that sabotages me sometimes. Reading articles like yours gives me another good boost to keep at it.

    • Hi Scott,

That’s good you think differently about Wealthy Affiliate. I thought of it the opposite way when I originally discovered it.

Yes, the support is awesome. I do like the fact that Kyle (& Carson) are engaged and very helpful on the platform.

I always tell people to utilize the platform as much as possible. Both Kyle and Carson are very accessible, so don’t be hesitant to reach out to either of them.

I hear you when it comes to time management. Kyle covered a little bit of that in the core training. So if you’re struggling, be sure to revisit some of those lessons.

I find them to be helpful and a great refresher every now and then. So be sure to check them out.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts- they’re greatly appreciated.

  3. I am very interested in starting an affiliate marketing website, as I’ve been reading and watching a lot of success stories on the web.

But what is stopping me from doing so other than my busy schedule is that I have little idea of how to go about it. In my search for a good affiliate marketing training program, I stumbled upon Wealthy Affiliate and started reading reviews.

Actually, I like everything I learned about this program. The all-expense paid trip to Vegas is such a huge bonus ☺.

Although there are bad reviews just like any other program, I believe that WA is one of the best because of the high success rate among members.

I just have a couple of questions regarding the membership levels and training. In case I signed up for the starter level, can I stay for more than a year?

I know that in other platforms, you have to upgrade or you will lose access. That is why you will get bombarded with notifications to upgrade to a paid membership.

Also, if I upgrade to the paid membership with WA, how much time and effort should I put in to start seeing results? I would really appreciate it if you share your own experience as to when did you start making money.

    • Hi Alice,

Based on what you told me, you’ve definitely come to the right place. Learning affiliate marketing is something you have to learn with the right skills.

So I understand why you’re having trouble. Reading this review should give you a better understanding of what Wealthy Affiliate is all about.

      Regarding your questions:

-Yes- once you open up a free starter account, you could stay for as long as you want. You will not lose any access: The only thing that you’ll have is the first five lessons of each of the two pieces of training they offer.

-To give you an honest perspective- it varies for each individual. Depending on how much time and effort you put in, you can make money within your first few months.

For some people, it could take at least six-twelve months until they start seeing results.

Looking at it from a long-term angle, I would give it at least 12-18 months until you start making substantial income.

One thing to remember is that it’s a long-term game. It will take time and effort to really see the work pay off- so don’t expect quick results.

That’s been the case for me and I continue to do so. It’s something you have to be patient and consistent with throughout time.

I hope that I answered your questions. They should give you a better understanding of where to go about from here.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts- they’re greatly appreciated.

  4. A very comprehensive article.  Thank you, and I couldn’t agree more.

I too spent many years getting sucked into the various MMO gurus out there.  Luckily, I didn’t have enough money to buy any of them!

Instead, I practically MEMORIZED everything on Youtube. Also known as paralysis by analysis.

But I learned a bunch of stuff…including the ability to tell who was talking trash and who was for real.  Today, It’s just Wealthy Affiliate and Miles Beckler, for me!  😀

    Have a good one,

    Anna

    • Hi Anna,

You’re not the only one who’s gone down that path of MMOs. There are a lot of them- most of them are really disappointing.

I liked how you memorize everything on YouTube- the term “paralysis by analysis” is really familiar to me.

It’s good that you have a better understanding of what’s legitimate or not. If you can spot those right away you’ll be much better off determining what is the best fit for you or not.

We know that Wealthy Affiliate does not fall into that category, so I’m glad you understand the value that they offer on their platform.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts- they’re greatly appreciated.

  5. Hi Eric, this is a fantastic review of the Wealthy Affiliate program!

I definitely agree with you that Wealthy Affiliate is a great program to help beginners start successful, long-term online businesses.

The website I started at Wealthy Affiliate is the one that’s been profitable for the longest after all.

For me, my favorite thing about Wealthy Affiliate is that they’ve kept things super straightforward and simple.

It’s really easy to get started regardless of your former experience.

    • Hi Kevin,

One of the best parts about Wealthy Affiliate is that they keep things simple. From the training, to the user interface design, everything looks simple and straightforward.

I like how there are no upsells or secrets behind joining WA. This platform is truly a great place to start an online business, and to connect with other successful internet marketers.

I’m glad to know your website is doing very well, considering that you’ve done the core training at WA.

That’s always intended to be the best outcome: For every WA member to have the opportunity in building a successful, long term online business.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts- they’re greatly appreciated.

  6. Always good to see a fair and reasonable review.

In my experience, Wealthy Affiliate has been an awesome and incredible learning tool and experience.

While I haven’t had nearly as much time to dedicated to it as I would have originally liked, I have managed to generate dozens of unique visitors to my website each month consistently.

Now as life begins to wind down, I’ve found more free time to dedicate to and more business growth is happening for me!

    Highly recommend!

I’m glad you’re able to find time to work on your business. It’s necessary for growing any business: If you can’t find that time needed, you’re not going to see great results later on.

It’s great it’s working out for you, and you’re making the most out of the Wealthy Affiliate platform. Keep up with the dedicated work.

Thank your very much for sharing your thoughts- they’re greatly appreciated.

  7. From my experience with Wealthy Affiliate, it is probably the best program in the world. I have been a part of many programs as an entrepreneur, you end up trying a lot of different things.

WA gives you all the tools that you need to be successful. All you have to do is apply what you earned and stay consistent.

The results come after the work. Nice blog post!

    • Hi KD,

There are a lot of programs for making money online but fail to live up to their expectations.

Luckily, Wealthy Affiliate is not one of them.

The WA platform is very powerful while giving you the tools needed to succeed in online business. As I’ve brought up before, you have everything you need to get an online business up and running.

It’s what I love about the platform: The training is basic and straightforward. If you apply what you learn and take action, you’ll do very well.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts- they’re greatly appreciated.

  8. Wow, that is a very extensive and detailed review of Wealthy Affiliate.  I was initially introduced to the WA program approximately 4 years ago and just recently returned.

I’ve tried many eLearning Affliate Marketing products with little results.  The reason I returned to WA is because the training is honest and ongoing.

So many of the other programs I have tried teach outdated information at “High Ticket” prices.  And then the only way to get updated info on what’s working now is to buy an Upsell of more training.  No so with WA!

I would definitely recommend WA for any affiliate marketer that wants to grow their current business.  No matter if they are a complete newbie or a seasoned marketer!

    • Hi Brian,

I’m glad to know you returned to the Wealthy Affiliate platform. It truly is one of the best platforms to learn an online business the right way.

I understand what you mean by trying out other programs that ended up being dissappointing. When there are upsells and just spending more money here and there, that’s not a good sign it’s the best.

Luckily, that doesn’t have to deal with WA. There’s none of that on this platform.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts- they’re greatly appreciated. All the best to you.

  9. Eric, a very thorough review! I would agree that there is plenty of engagement as a member and plenty of resources available.

Contrary to my nature, I do believe it is important to spend some time engaging members. Not just for help you might need but also to provide help to new members.

I have had a great experience with this facet of the program. The training has been top-notch with little glitches here and there but better than anything I have ever tried.

    Thanks for the informative review!

  10. Hi Eric, this is a great review on Wealthy Affiliate (WA). I have been a long-time premium member and the amount of growth in WA continues to wow me.

WA is so much superior compared to any other affiliate marketing platform, and that’s why I’m still with WA after all these years.

There is still so much to learn and hopefully, I can be better to eventually join the coveted premium plus members, once I can afford of course.

Being part of WA right now is particularly thrilling, as there’s so much more to come.

It’s definitely an exciting time to be part of WA- the best has yet to come, for sure.

  11. A great article that covers many of the aspects of affiliate marketing. It was the first one I came to when I was looking to earn extra money online and I love the fact that the community are with you 24/7.

The training tabs are easy to follow and there is technical support whenever we need it.

I agree with you about the ambassador program. I think many members spend more time trying to get their ranking low instead of concentrating on writing articles.

I have noticed that more people follow you though when you’re in the ‘top 100’ or ‘top 50’ as your profile shows near the top for people to see.

Overall, it’s a positive experience and definitely one that I would recommend.

    Thanks for sharing.

I think there needs to be less emphasis on the ambassadorship program.

It’s crucial for beginners to focus on the training, and build their niche websites before they become active helpers on the WA platform.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience- I greatly appreciate it.

  13. I found your review of Wealthy Affiliate very in-depth and with an honest viewpoint. Seems like everywhere you turn there is a get-rich-quick scheme trying to lure people in.

The fact that you speak honestly of the results one can expect at Wealthy Affiliate is reassuring that this is not one of those schemes.

You mention a lot about the training courses available and that sounds like the core of the membership program.

But I’m curious as to the amount of material that is available to build an actual website, since that seems to be an essential requirement for making money online using the training.

What if you have absolutely no computer or website literacy whatsoever, are resources available to train people how to do that?

    James.

    • Hi James,

As far as additional resources that Wealthy Affiliate provides, you do need an electronic device and an internet connection to work through the platform.

Without those two, it’s not possible to learn how it all works. Or what it takes to build a successful, online business in the long run.

You can do it through a mobile device, but it would be much easier to do it through a desktop/laptop. That’s all I would advise on that.

I appreciate your question and comment- it’s some good food for thought. Thank you again.

  15. Thanks for a very insightful overview of the WA platform.

I’m just wondering though………….just how effective is the “free” option?

We all know that you “get what you pay for” so can you REALLY opt for the free account, pay nothing and still be successful at WA?

Surely there is a limit to what can be achieved if you don’t have access to the information that I imagine is key to your success?

Also…………….how close are you to the Vegas trip?

    Reply
    • Hi Michael,

The free starter account is meant to be a test drive, to see whether Wealthy Affiliate is the right choice for starters.

Although it’s not impossible to succeed with a free plan, it’ll be harder to grow and scale your online business in the long run.

The free plan is limited, which means it may take you longer to see success in your online business. It’s why if you want to see meaningful results, your best option is to upgrade.

For those who are on the fence to upgrade, I encourage you to check out a post I did about whether to upgrade to a premium membership. It’s worth the read, for sure.

As far as my progress on getting to Vegas, I still have a long way to go. Not sure if I’ll make it next year (2024), but I’d love to go one of these years.

We shall see. Thank you for those questions, and for sharing your thoughts- they’re greatly appreciated.
