When I first got started at Wealthy Affiliate, I was somewhat uncertain about how the training courses would go. You may be considering signing up, or maybe you recently signed up for a free starter account. So how do I get started with Wealthy Affiliate?
After you sign up, you can start by going right to one of the two primary core training courses. Start with lesson one of the course, which goes over how to set up your profile in general.
This article is the first of a series on the Online Entrepreneur Certification (OEC) training at Wealthy Affiliate (WA). Throughout this post, I will cover the main points covered in the first lesson of level one (which is free to get started).

What is the Wealthy Affiliate program?
WA is an educational platform that teaches people how to build niche websites, primarily through affiliate marketing. For nearly 18 years, it has grown into becoming a place to learn topics about internet marketing in general.
WA offers two types of core training for getting started: OEC and Affiliate Bootcamp. The OEC course is designed to start a website in any niche and is designed with the beginner in mind.
On the other hand, Affiliate Bootcamp is designed for the make-money-online niche, and also teaches you how to promote the affiliate program at WA.
The affiliate program is one of the most lucrative programs in the industry (i.e. you earn 50% in commissions made through promoting WA).

For the purpose of this article, I will go over the OEC course in more detail. It consists of five levels, with 50 lessons in total. The lessons are taught by Kyle Loudoun, one of the co-founders of WA.
For this post, I will do a brief summary of the first level in level one of the OEC training. Let’s dive into lesson 1 of this course, which is free to get started watching right now.
How do I get started with Wealthy Affiliate?
Simply sign up for a free starter account when you visit their website. Once you sign up, start right by going into one of the two primary core pieces of training they offer. That’s where you’ll get the most out of learning how to start an online business effectively.
Level 1: Lesson 1: Getting Rolling
The first lesson is a basic overview of what you’ll be learning. Also, it explains why you can count on the training to deliver results.
The goal in the early stages is to earn trust with the platform, along with moving in the right direction for your online business.
There are many courses and programs out there related to making money online; unfortunately, a lot of these programs don’t live up to an individual’s expectations.
Moreover, that leads to frustrations and disappointing results down the road. Luckily, WA is not part of that list of questionable programs out there.

Things to keep in mind while doing the training
While navigating through the training, it’s best to keep in mind some things to take note of. These include the following:
Anyone can be successful in the online world
Anyone is capable of succeeding in online business by taking action and remaining consistent with their practices. As of January 2023, there are around 5.16 billion users online– with nearly $8 trillion dollars being spent on the internet.
Those numbers just blow my mind away, and the numbers will only go up as the internet continues to advance. You have a large audience (64% of the global population) to reach out to, so you can get a great portion of those users online.
There are so many opportunities to connect with people online while earning revenue for your business. WA members are likely to do better with the right tools provided to them.
We teach what works, and we provide you with help if you ever feel even the slightest bit stuck.
-Kyle Loudoun (OEC instructor & co-founder of Wealthy Affiliate)
Starting something NEW can “Appear” overwhelming
Similar to learning anything new, it can look overwhelming and challenging at first. Just like riding a bike for the first time, you’ll likely fall many times before becoming a pro biker.
But with practice over time, you’ll get better and it’ll be easier. In regards to the OEC training, WA teaches what works and they’ll continue to do so.

No prior experience required
Most members come in with no background or experience in areas such as internet marketing, website design, or knowing how to code. Experience helps, but it’s not necessary when joining WA.
The core training fits nicely for newbies, so there’s no need to be a “tech” geek or have a degree in digital marketing.
Success is a journey
Success is cumulative: What you learn and take action on today contributes to your success in the future.
In other words, what you do now will pay off later (and sometimes, forever). There are massive payoffs to come for putting the time and effort in right now.
How will you develop success at Wealthy Affiliate?
Building success boils down to four simple steps. Each of these steps will be covered throughout the training lessons.
Here’s what you’ll learn and take away from the WA training:

Choose an interest
It can be any interest, passion, or something you want to learn more about. For example, I enjoy bowling as it’s a favorite pastime of mine. A specific example would be bowling for high school students.
Build a website
A website is the foundation of any online business. I think of it as your home base for building success from the bottom up.
At WA, you can build a website with WordPress (which is integrated into the platform). They also provide top-notch hosting as well. I believe it’s one of the best parts about being on the platform.
Attract visitors
The training will teach you how to acquire organic traffic to your website. Its primary focus is free traffic, and there are plenty of methods to acquire it.
One good example is search engine optimization (SEO), which is covered extensively in the training. You’ll learn how to do SEO through three main search engines: Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
But with the majority of search traffic coming from Google these days, you’ll primarily be focused on learning SEO for Google.
Earn revenue
Once you have visitors to your website, that’s where the “make money” component comes in. There are more than 50 methods to monetize your website, with over 550 million products or services to promote as an affiliate.
With those numbers, there are endless opportunities to monetize and earn revenue online. It truly is remarkable, so the sky is the limit.
Best tips of advice (from Kyle & Carson)
There are two things to keep in mind as you navigate through the training.
Ask questions (Always)
Ask questions at any time: The community at WA is ready to help you with anything you might be struggling with.
Here are some places to utilize when you need help:
- Live chat: For instant help and answers (available 24/7)
- Ask a question on your dashboard: For something that needs a more thorough response from a member
- Send a private message (PM): Reach out directly to Kyle, Carson, myself, or any other member on the platform*
- Leave a question below at the end of each training lesson: Ask anything about the training. You will get a prompt response from one of the helpers.
- Leave a question on Kyle or Carson’s profiles: You’ll likely get a quicker response back from both of them. You can also leave a question or comment on my profile if you need help as well.
*Private messaging is available only for premium and premium-plus members
Take action
Success will not happen if you take no action at all. You can read through the training lessons all day long. But if you don’t follow through and complete the tasks, the training will not work for you.
So take action on what you learn, as there will be a better chance of seeing results. Make sure to follow up on the tasks assigned at the end of each lesson.
DO NOT move forward until you finish each task on the list. In my experience, I believe it’s the best approach to succeeding by implementing the training.
