Ginger Writing Tool Review: Is Ginger A Winner For Writers?

Understanding how to write effectively is crucial to communicating well. Whether it’s academic writing (or writing for business), you want people to understand what you’re saying. From a business standpoint, you want your writing to be clear and concise. You can use writing tools to help, and one of those is the Ginger writing tool.

But will it help you write better? Does it stand out from its competition? Let’s take a closer look at what this writing tool is and how it can benefit you.

What is the Ginger software?

Ginger is a spelling and grammar checker to help improve your writing. The tool is more than just a checker, as it’s powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP). Similar to other writing tools, it aims to help writers improve communications.

Founded in 2008, it originally was created to help people with dyslexia. Dyslexics may have trouble choosing the right words. Therefore, Ginger came about to help solve this problem for a particular group of people.

A couple of years later, it shifted its focus to analyzing sentences instead of only words. It can help a lot of writers when it comes to writing better sentences.

Over the years, the software has grown to help more people write better. At present, it has more than one million active weekly users and has corrected more than one billion sentences. It has become better and easier to write sentences rather than only words.

For the remainder of this review, I’ll cover some of the key features, whether the tool is a good fit, and my thoughts on Ginger as well.

Introducing Ginger’s Writing Assistant

How does Ginger work?

As mentioned earlier, Ginger uses a mix of AI and NLP to correct sentences and improve their writing style. One of the biggest highlights is the ability to rephrase sentences.

With their sentence rephrase, it looks over an entire sentence when making corrections. Typically, writing tools would focus on correcting words. But Ginger has this additional feature to help out writers.

Ginger writing tool: One neat aspect of Ginger is it analyzes sentences, instead of words only.

Not a lot of writing tools have a sentence rephraser, which can be frustrating for some writers. It can be very helpful for modifying wordy sentences from time to time.

Some other highlights consist of helping make writing more creative and improving the style and tone. It also gives you a list of AI-based synonyms; in other words, they provide synonyms and expressions to find the best match possible.

Key features

Ginger has a lot of neat features, but I’m going to cover a few for this review. Some of them include the following:

Sentence rephraser

As I went over earlier, the sentence rephraser gives you multiple variations of sentences to choose from. When you write a sentence that you’re having trouble with (or cannot get your point across), that’s where Ginger comes in for better suggestions.

It basically works like a thesaurus- but only for writing better sentences. It makes writing simple when you’re trying to come up with better ideas.

Translation tool

With Ginger, it helps you translate from more than 40 languages. Some of the languages include Spanish, French, German, and Japanese.

It can be very helpful for both native and non-native English speakers. Ginger can translate English texts into Spanish even if you write in English. You can also do it the other way around if English is your second language.

Proofreading service

Ginger provides proofreading as another option. You can easily proofread your text, which eliminates the need to have others review your writing.

Personal trainer

If writing English is not your strength, a personal trainer can help identify with your weak areas. This feature provides you with lessons on improving your writing. Along with that, you can learn from your mistakes while writing as well.

Ginger writer for mobile

Ginger has a mobile app where you can write good texts, emails, or even write engaging tweets on Twitter. Whatever you do on a mobile phone, Ginger can be a great tool for writing on the go. The app is available via IOS and Android devices.

Can Ginger help you write efficiently?

Based on what I wrote about earlier, it definitely can help with efficiency. Powered by AI, it can make writing quick and easier to do.

As far as the personal trainer it can help you write better English. So if you feel that you need more guidance in that area, the personal trainer can be a great fit.

Along with that, the fact it provides proofreading for you eliminates the need to have others proofread your writing. It can be helpful in saving time and being efficient (while not bothering others to look over your work).

Who is Ginger designed for?

Ginger can be used by anyone who wants to write better. More so, it’s best suited for the following types of writers:

  • Those who have English as their second language (ESL)
  • Those who struggle coming up with contextual sentences (i.e. dyslexics)
  • Students (for writing essays)
  • Lawyers/paralegals (especially if you write a lot of reports or legal documents)
Ginger writing tool: Ginger is suitable for those who speak native English, along with those who speak other languages as well.

Pricing

Ginger offers a free plan to users, which is nice and convenient to use. Although it works fine, it does have some limited functions.

Along with the free plan, it offers some premium plans that work across all websites, tools, and devices. With a premium plan, you can do the following:

  • Correct multiple mistakes at once
  • Unlimited amount using the sentence rephraser
  • Translate in more than 40 languages

When signing up for a premium plan, you can try it out for free for your first 7 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can get a money-back guarantee within the 7-day period.

Is Ginger worth it?

Overall Rating: 4/5

Five star ratings score: This picture is the rating score for product reviews.

Ginger is a unique writing tool that goes beyond basic grammar and spelling checks. Powered by AI, it can help improve your writing to the next level.

What stands out the most is their sentence rephraser. Rather than analyzing a word, it will look over a sentence that can be worded better. That’s one of the best features Ginger has.

However, it’s not as perfect as other writing tools. When you write, it may not catch every error or suggest ways to improve it.

Also, the sentence rephraser may not provide the best suggestions as well. By that, some of the variations presented may not make sense. So that can be frustrating for writers when looking at corrections.

Can Ginger help you write faster? My thoughts

When I tried out Ginger recently, I loved all of the suggestions that came up while writing. Having examined other writing tools, however, I felt overwhelmed.

When there are so many suggestions that I can use, it can slow my writing down. So using it the whole I write took me longer to write an article than usual.

As I wrote earlier, I didn’t like the variations that I was presented with. Some of them did not make sense, and it wasn’t worth inserting into my article.

If you’re going to try out Ginger, I will recommend doing what I’ve said before: Write your content first, then use the writing tool to find errors and make corrections. But other than that, I believe it’s worth giving it a shot.

Final Words

Ginger is another writing tool that can help make your writing flow better. With the sentence rephraser feature, you can write better sentences than you originally wrote.

Despite its flaws, Ginger has improved as a writing tool over time. With more writers using it these days, Ginger will continue to stand out along with other writing tools.

If you want to try it out for free, you can easily install it through one of your browser extensions (i.e. Chrome). You can start using it in the next few minutes to see for yourself.

If you want to use the more advanced features, check out one of their premium plans. You’ll get a lot more value by signing up for a premium plan.

Especially if they run occasional discounts, it may be worth it for yourself or your team. Whichever plan suits you best for you, you have 7 days to try it out. Get started today to see what Ginger can do to improve your writing.

  1. Hi Eric

I am loving the Ginger Writing Tool already. Actually, I adore artificial intelligence. Equally backed by natural language processing from anyone offering it lol, software or man!

Seriously I think all writers can benefit from additional resources to write much better. The rephrasing feature is amazing also. I can see that particular feature being put to good use.

I have written many paragraphs, leaving them for editing the next day. In some situations, I cannot believe what I have written!

I think it is extremely credible that the company was first founded in 2008 to assist folks with dyslexia. I will definitely be taking a further look at the Ginger Writing Tool.

Excellent read Eric- thank you kindly.

    Shelley

P.S My comment is as it is until I acquire this profound tool! 🙂
